Why Meditation?

Stress is a fact of life. Demanding lifestyles take a lot out of us and we become stuck in an unhealthy cycle of high-adrenalin fight or flight responses that weaken our immune systems and cause a wide variety of health problems including insomnia, high blood pressure, weight gain and more. The key to breaking the stress cycle is meditation.

Meditation promotes health by creating a balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems. Reducing activation of the sympathetic nervous system dilates blood vessels and reduces stress hormones such as cortisol, adrenalin and noradrenalin. It also releases helpful healing chemicals such as gaba, serotonin, epinephrine, which decrease heart rate, promote better sleep and digestion, and improve clarity of mind and its appreciation of the world around us.

By meditating, we can identify and control triggers, and even reduce our unhealthy responses to stress. Meditation takes years to perfect, but the benefits will last a lifetime.
